Autumn Favourites 2017!

Wow… it’s been a little while since I’ve done a ‘favourites’ post. I tend not to make monthly favourites, purely because I’m poor, and man can’t afford enough new stuff to write about every month! Also because at this current moment, I’m making two blog posts and two YouTube videos (check out my YouTube channel here!) per month. Which may not seem like much in terms of content, but I’m happy with it.

So, to wrap up the November on this blog I thought it would be fitting to wrap up a few of the things I’ve been loving these past few months as the weather’s gotten colder (yessss), days have gotten shorter (double yessss) and the great C-word approaches (Christmas, I mean Christmas). So here they are!

Wearing

Mustard Jumper – H&M

Ah yes, this is where I give myself away as the absolute epitome of a female blogger: the mustard knitted jumper. But damn, do I love it. It was super cheap (like £6???) and I’ve gotten so much wear out of it already. I must admit, I was worried I wouldn’t suit the mustard, but I think I get away with it. Definitely #worthit.

Tan Leather Rucksack – Accessorize

This was one of my more extravagant purchases of autumn 2017, which sounds a bit weird considering it’s a rucksack. And it’s not one of those weird super-expensive Swedish ones either. But for me, buying a bag from Accessorize is pushing it a bit. But I figured I need a good quality backpack to last me a few years of uni, and I use this every day. For uni, going to Connor’s house, and even taking to work. I’m mega-fussy when it comes to bags and purses, etc. so this was perfect. Even if it did slightly break the bank at the time.

Using

Fragrance Free Lip Balm – Superdrug

Ah, Winter. Thou art a heartless bitch on the lips and skin. Which is why I needed to find a new solution when my trusty lip balm ran out. And yes, I did actually go for the simplest, cheapest option out there, it was a good choice. A cheeky pack of two means I’m never without a quick fix for dry lips (try saying that five times fast), and they do the job.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Facial Wash

Speaking of winter and its effects on the skin, boy oh boy does my skin HATE the change in seasons. But this has seriously helped. A combination of a good face wash every day, moisturizer and drinking lots of water helps keep the breakouts mostly under control. Also, this one smells super good.

Reading

The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare

Okay so… I’ve read QUITE A LOT these past few months. Might have something to do with the fact that I have a BookTube channel all about the books I read. (and I’m almost at 50 subscribers so!!!) but yes, I’ve read a lot. However, as university work has gotten more prevalent in my life, reading has unfortunately gone on the back burner. So at the moment I’m slowly making my way through The Mortal Instruments (yes, I know I’m ten years late).

I started off not loving the world of the shadowhunters too much, mainly due to personal dislike for Cassandra Clare’s writing style, however the series and characters have definitely grown on me and I can see this series staying with me for a long time! If you want to find out about my opinions on this series as I continue reading (I’m currently on the fourth book), then make sure to subscribe to my channel!

Listening To

Harry Styles by Harry Styles

23949504_1614417091914034_319471111_o.jpg

Okay so I was never ever ever a 1D fan. Nothing against them, I just was slightly too old to love them, and slightly too young to hate them. But out of a need for new music recently (after listening to the same 4 bands for the past like 5 years), I decided to give Harry’s album a go. Even though I didn’t like Sign of the Times when I first heard it, I LOVE this album. I think Harry is by far the most talented out of the group, and his personal style truly shines through in this album. It has hints of classic rock, ballads, and even country at times, and I absolutely love it. Every song makes me want to sit staring out a train window and leave my old life behind in a turn-around montage, you know? It’s that kind of music.

Watching

Stranger Things

Come on. We all know this would be on here. If this isn’t on everyone’s Autumn favourites then they are LYING. I have not met one single person who hasn’t loved this show, and season two that blasted into my life at the end of October was everything I could have hoped for for my Hawkins children and more. I love each and every one of the characters and storylines so much, and this season truly did just expand on the Strange World and the characters I loved the first time around. It’s one of the best pieces of cinematic artwork I’ve ever seen, and I even used it as inspiration for one of my university presentations. That’s how much I love it.

The Vampire Diaries

It may have taken me eight years (this show first aired in 2009. 2009?!?!), but last night I finally finished The Vampire Diaries. And I full-on sobbed for the last five minutes of the last episode (sorry, Connor). I’ve been through many ups and downs with this show, and I can easily say it is not the best show I’ve ever seen. At times, it actually felt like I was physically being thrown into a fantasy writer’s worst nightmare, what with the plot holes and convoluted storylines, but I did feel an attachment to many of the characters, and I’m so glad it ended in the way it did. But if I think about it too much, I’ll never shut up. So let’s move on.

Miscellaneous

YouTube

by owen young.png

I know I’ve spoken about this multiple times in this post alone and I’m SORRY (but I’m also not sorry), but I’ve started a YouTube channel! I’m currently posting one video a fortnight, and trying to get motivated to do more (maybe over Christmas?) but I basically just talk about books! Books I’ve read, my opinions on books, and I even have a series on book recommendations for each of the Hogwarts houses!

I’m loving the whole feel of creating videos for my YouTube channel, and coming up with ideas for the future is just as exciting as seeing people commenting and enjoying them, and I can’t wait to put more effort into my channel into the future, since I’m finally doing something I’ve always wanted to do (make YT videos) while making it about something I’ve always had a passion for!

University Life

And finally, I’ve been loving uni life. While I’ve not been the typical fresher, what with living at home (check out why I decided to this here), and with not being really into the whole alcohol culture that comes with uni, I’ve been loving learning again.

I wasn’t sure I wanted to get a degree for a long time, but after deciding on what I wanted to do in the future, I knew it was a step I had to take to get where I wanted to go, and I’m going to embrace every second of it. Starting uni has given me the opportunity to keep my innocence and act like a teenager for a bit longer, something I won’t be taking for granted. I get to live at home with my family, I get to learn every day, and have spare time to spend on hobbies that I love. I’m loving university life, and I’m so lucky that this is a part of life I’m able to take part in.

So there you have it, a few of my favourite things from this Autumn. Much like everyone else in this world, I can’t believe we’re nearly over with 2017, but honestly I’m so excited for what’s coming up in 2018 as some pretty exciting things are in place already.

If you’ve got a favourites post, link it down below so I can check it out, and if you’ve been loving the same things as me then let me know, I’d love to hear about it, and also let me know if there’s any Christmas-y/Winter-y or other content you’d like to see from this blog!

‘Til next time,

Jess x

Spring + Summer Favourites 2017

Hello hello hello…. I’m back (again) after a little escape (again) from the blogging world (again). Let’s just say things have been… busy. V V busy, in fact.

But now, hopefully things are going to calm down a bit, and I can get back into the thing I always want to spend my time on: blogging!Read More »

Winter Weekend OOTD // Blogmas Day 11

To follow on from my last outfit of the day post from Autumn, I thought I’d make this a little seasonal tradition (that may one day turn into a look-book, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves shall we?). So without all the waffle (as per usual), here’s my Winter Outfit of the Day, with some nice winter-y woods-y walk photos (photography credit to Connor).

All links to items that I can find online will be at the bottom of the post! Enjoy!

DSCF1117.JPG

For this casual weekend walk outfit, I went comfy as hell. Which is, to be honest, what I’m all about.

My coat, featured previously in my Autumn OOTD, is a Dorothy Perkins purchase, and has got me through many a cold winter morning! DSCF1120.JPG

This awesomely cuddly mint green jumper is from New Look, and I’ve been kind of obsessed with these. As in I already have two of the colours, and am planning on getting a third. They’re so cheap, so cheerful, and soo soft.DSCF1116.JPG

As for my bottom half (oo-er), my jeans are just some simple high wasted skinnies from Primark (where else?) And these have managed to last since about May, and still going strong, amazing for the price! Will definitely be finding some more of these for 2017…

15502679_1183549811736945_1402815561_o.jpg

The credit of my incredible Doc-Marten-style boots (but not) goes to Connor’s family, who bought me them last Christmas (and I’m afraid I have no idea where they’re from) but they’ve had so much wear, and still going strong into next year! They’re the perfect study walking boot, that also gives me the style of a Doc Marten (while also being so much more comfortable – in my opinion).

15409644_1183549765070283_57755423_o.jpg

Accessories time…both coming from H&M, this gorgeous beige bobble hat (also featured in my last OOTD… sorry for the repetition… I don’t go shopping a lot) and my cool-as-hell black cat-eye sunglasses have been staples for me so far this winter, and I’m sure they’ll continue to be. Especially on lovely winter walks like this, where the sun was shining, but it was also bloody cold.

15502726_1183549615070298_1978235650_o.jpg

And there we have it, my Winter Weekend OOTD for 2016. Keep an eye out for some more outfit of the day posts in 2017 (hopefully with some more variety!). Hope you guys have all had a fantastic weekend, and I’ll see you tomorrow for blogmas day 12!

High Waisted Blue Skinny Jeans – Primark

Everyday Winter Makeup Look // Blogmas Day 9

(I was about to say “Happy Saturday everybody!!”, then I realised that it’s Friday, and just because I have a day off doesn’t mean it’s the weekend…. result!)

Happy Friday everybody, I hope you’re doing well. For today’s blogmas, I felt like carrying on with the beauty theme from yesterday, and I’m going to be showing you guys my every day Winter makeup look, because I myself am the nosiest person ever, and I thought you might enjoy it! So without too much waffling (but let’s be honest, there will be a bit, it’s me), I’ll get right into it!

First, I use Rimmel’s Stay Matte foundation in the shade 100 Ivory as my base (I did moisturise before this, don’t have a go), and use my Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer (yes, I’m on the bandwagon) to cover my dark under-eyes and any horrific spots or red patches. Then, I’ll set this with the matching Rimmel Stay Matte powder in the shade 100 Transparent (like see-through, not like the hit Amazon series).

DSCF1096.JPG

With the base of my face (weyhey) done, I’m going onto brows. At the moment I’m loving my Makeup Revolution HD Pro Brows kit which I reviewed yesterday on the blog (here’s the post), and using a small and flat angled brush from a set I bought from eBay a while ago, I’m going to chuck on some brows (there’s an image).

DSCF1097.JPG

Next, onto eyes. In an everyday look, I don’t tend to put shadow on, which is just because I’m lazy and haven’t mastered the art yet. But what I lack in eyeshadow, I make up for in a shit ton of liner. So using my Primark P.S pencil black eyeliner I line both my waterlines (top and bottom) and smudge it out a bit (the reason why I do this is in this post).

Then, onto liquid liner. I’m currently using up the last of this Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner in Black 1, but I’m not a huge fan of it. If anyone could recommend some cheap but cheerful liquid eyeliners to try, it’d be greatly appreciated! So using this, I’m gonna do a heck of a wing (just my style).DSCF1098.JPG

In an every day look as well, I don’t tend to go overboard on the face defining and contour, etc. So I’m going to be chucking on a bit of bronzer from this Makeup Revolution Ultra Sculpt and Contour Kit (which I featured in my Summer Favourites), just to add some warmth to my face.

Then adding some blush to my cheeks with my MakeUp Revolution (you’d think I was bloody paid by them or something.. I promise I’m not) Dream Blush Palette (also featured here) to add some colour.

DSCF1099.JPG

As I said, for every day, I don’t go overboard, so I won’t add highlight or anything too extreme, but I do like to have a little lippy, and today I was using my MUA Intense Colour Lip Liner (yes, all over my lips) in the shade Caramel Nougat, for a nice nude addition to a bit of a plain look.

DSCF1101.JPG

Here’s the finished look! (Apologies for the horrific quality)

Snapchat-8941195966565774652.jpg

And there you have it, my Everyday Winter Makeup Look for 2016. I hope it wasn’t too average and boring. I’m thinking of creating a Christmas Party/Christmas Day Makeup Look to follow on from this, if you want to see that, please let me know! Have a great weekend, guys, see you tomorrow!

Autumn OOTD: A Day at the Office

And we’ve made it, guys. We’ve made it to that point where I, yes I, am posting an Outfit of the Day. I know, try not to die of shock. It’s just as incredible to me.

Actually, you can all thank Nicole Aejay Flora for this. Nicole is an awesome fellow blogger, who contacted me through Instagram to see if I wanted to have my first ever blogger’s collab. So (obviously) I said yes!

Nicole is a mishmash lifestyle blogger like myself, but with way more style and photography skills (which, let’s be honest, isn’t difficult). Her Instagram is full of aesthetic, and her blog posts are just as awesome. Go check out her blog here, and here’s her Instagram account if you’re looking for a fancy new feed to follow. She has also posted an OOTD on her blog, with the theme of Night Out, so go check out the post here, and here’s a pic of her gorgeous OOTN:

410b7f7b-9255-4433-8d34-bb65a69b8f06.jpg

And here goes, my first ever OOTD…

14826421_1130043693754224_1543297845_n.jpg

My theme for this post was going to be A Day at the Office, considering that this kind of outfit is what I wear on the regular after starting full-time work. When I first knew I’d be getting this job, I instantly went on a bit of a spending spree for work clothes that my bank account really didn’t appreciate…

14797473_1130043687087558_877790653_n.jpg

For this particular day (it was actually a Sunday and I didn’t have work but let’s just pRETEND SHALL WE?) I went for my usual dark colours, but added in a splash of baby pink, which I’ve been really loving recently.

I’m absolutely in love with this coat. I bought it a couple of weeks ago, thanks to my mum and her bargaining ways. It’s a Dorothy Perkins petite, and it’s amazing. It’s so super soft, a camel coat that I bought a size up to look slightly boyfriend-y, with grey accents on the sleeve and under the collar. It was originally £55, but with my mum’s uncanny way of getting a deal, I managed to get it online for £41. All the links to each item of clothing will be listed at the end!

14797502_1130043647087562_1713971176_n.jpg

As for the real meat of the outfit, I went for this sheer powder pink crepe blouse from H&M, which I love because it can be dressed up for work or nights out with a black skirt or trousers, but also dressed down with leggings, as it’s pretty long and covers all the wobbly bits! And over the top, this cheap-as-chips dark grey cardigan from Primark  (where else?). I’ve actually considered buying this cardigans in bulk, due to them being so damn cheap and comfortable for winter, especially for work where giant fluffy jumpers aren’t quite acceptable. Which is a damn shame, really.

14797316_1130043473754246_292788190_n.jpg

Unfortunately, I can no longer find the skirt, but it was a pure luck buy from New Look in their end-of-summer sale at only £4! It’s been perfect for work as it looks smart and adds a touch of colour, but is also super soft and comfortable (and a respectable length, obviously. What do you take  me for?). Paired with simple black tights, I’ve found in the recent weeks that anything can be turned into office wear if you try hard enough!

14826202_1130043487087578_1975507179_n.jpg

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Yes, I gave in and I bought a winter hat. Sue me. It had to be done. I never thought I suited the bobble-hat, but I’ve found that you’ve got to bobble it at some point in life, haven’t you? Life’s too short, like.

14813622_1130043550420905_736344036_n.jpg

And now I get to talk about my favourite part of the whole outfit. Yes, that’s right. SHOES.

I wanted a pair of black Chelsea boots for so long, and I actually bought a few pairs from various places, but never found anything that 1. fitted quite right, or 2. looked quite right. But it turns out a new shopping contender brought the game up to a new level…

14805353_1130043460420914_1662024620_n.jpg

I downloaded Depop on a whim to look for people selling cameras, and thought I’d see what boots I could find. Turns out, I found the perfect pair. By the seller VictoriaKaye97 (click here to check out her other items), who was selling these gorgeous Linzi boots for just £10! The biggest bargain of the season, I have to say. And it will be well worth it, because I know I’ll be wearing these every day for months on end…

And there you have it! My very first OOTD blog post! I hope you enjoyed it (somehow I managed to make a story out of this? I really need to work on my waffling) and look out for a new blog post every Wednesday and Sunday!

Have a fab week,

Jess

What’s In My Bag? / 2016

I told you this was gonna be girly. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

If you’re not into all this girly beauty/lifestyle type of content then feel free to stop reading, I won’t be mad. But if you are, then I hope this post makes a good start on my road to being one of those bloggers.

And the reason for this post even being a thing is simply because I freaking love being nosey about other people. I’ll happily watch a hundred of these videos on YouTube and read these types of blogs so, I thought I’d give it a go.

So, without rambling too much (still will a little bit, this is me), let’s get into it!

dscf0983dscf0988

The Bag

So, to start off, my actual bag was bought from eBay earlier this year (and is still available here). When I found it, I was looking for a proper grown-up bag. I wanted small enough to carry around everyday, but also big enough to 1. take to college (when I went to college) and 2. fit overnight stuff in for when I stay at the boyfriend’a house. And I found exactly the right one! (And it was less than £20). It’s got three zippy pockets – and loads more inside each one – gold hardware, is waterproof and has a long handle as well (which is a must for me, ain’t nobody got time to use those little handles constantly).

The Contents

DSCF0990.JPG

Item 1: Purse

DSCF0993.JPG

I recently changed from my summer to winter purses (yes, I do that), and I’m still as in love with this as when I first bought it. It was a New Look purchase, and unfortunately is no longer being sold as it was from 2015. But, it’s super sturdy and pretty with the gold hardware (anyone feeling a gold theme?) and rose details. It’s got enough space for all those stupid cards you carry around, as well as change and TONS OF RECIEPTS (guilty). It’s fab. I love it.

Item 2: Sunglasses

DSCF0994.JPG

Finally, a recent purchase that I can actually link you to! Try not to explode with excitement, as I know you all will. I recently went on a bit of a major spend at a few places and H&M was one of them. These little beauties were on sale for £3.49 and I thought they’ll be perfect for when it’s cold af, but still so sunny that you can’t actually see. Really simple purchase, but very worth it.

Item 3: The Notebook(s)

DSCF0999.JPG

One being my bullet journal (take a look at this post for more info on that!), the other being my work notebook that they gave me because it was floating around the office. I cannot go anywhere without a notebook (and a pen. Obviously.), just in case of those ‘Eureka!’ moments (and by ‘Eureka’, I of course mean when you remember that you forgot to get deoderant and need to go get some because you smell).

Item 4: The Necessities

dscf10011

Pretty bog standard stuff, to be honest. Umbrella (because I live in England), and keys. House key, car key and Tesco Clubcard fob. The basics.

Item 5: Glasses

DSCF1004.JPG

My lovely glasses. Constantly need to be in the bag because I need them for driving (when I do actually get a chance to drive) and for when I get headaches at work. Also, they make me look clever.

Item 6: The Teccy Bits

DSCF1005.JPG

As we all know, these are of course the most important items in any bag. My phone, a beautiful little HTC One Mini 2 which suits me perfectly  (because I, too, am mini), my iPod Nano, Gummy earphones (I cannot be doing with those funny bobbly earphones that don’t fit in my ears, so I stick with the Gummys), and my portable charger. The charger was from Amazon (find it here) and was slightly more expensive than others I’d found, but so worth it. It can charge my phone fully about five times before dying. I recommend!

Item 7: The Beauty Bits

DSCF1006.JPG

So, in the middle zippy bit (the technical term) of my bag, I like to keep all those little things that we always wish we had when we don’t. That includes:

Finally, the last thing I like to keep in my bag is… More bags. Carrier bags. British people can relate. The struggle truly is real with carrier bags.

And there you go! Possibly the girliest thing ever to grace this bonkers planet, and its now on my blog! I hope you enjoyed it, and if you want more posts like this (or if you hated it and want me to go back to rambling about Lena Dunham) then leave me a comment!

Thanks for reading, see you Wednesday!

Summer Favourites! 2016

It’s finally here. To quote Panic! at the Disco, summer’s on its deathbed. It’s over. The warm weather may remain, the we might see the sun for a few more weeks but… in the eyes of every one around: summer is over. About bloody time. For some reason this summer has dragged for me? Anyone else know what I’m on about? No? I mean I’ve loved the sun and the heat, but I’m ready for my jumpers now. Okay?

So, as the end of summer is upon us, and all the young people sigh as they pack their bags for school, I thought I’d share with you some of my favourite bits and bobs that I’ve collected over the summer months. I’m in no way a beauty blogger or a fashion…y person. But I personally love reading and watching posts like this, so I’ll spare you the waffle and get straight into it!

Make-up

Makeup Revolution Sculpt and Contour Kit

14224839_1166998596655888_158767074806056439_n.jpg

My friend Sophie actually bought this for me as it came free in a Superdrug 3 for 2 and I definitely don’t regret letting her! (Thanks Soph, love you) If you’re anything like me and are an absolute dunce when it comes to make-up, this is perfect. It’s super cheap at £3.50, and comes with three shades of face powder: bronzer, highlighter and blush. I love the blush and highlight shades, they were perfect for summer and for my holiday, both with flecks of gold. And, while the formulas aren’t perfect, they’re definitely worth the bargain. Recommend!

New Look Pure Colour Matte Liquid Lip

14222210_1166998313322583_604942652061982742_n.jpg14117800_1166998436655904_2488265368563722275_n (1).jpg

Now this is the first and currently only liquid lipstick that I own, so I can’t say much in terms of comparison, but I really love this product. Again, it’s perfect for summer. I chose the shade ‘Sweet Rose’, which was lighter than I originally thought but turned out well! The formula definitely is long lasting, it takes a good long scrub from a make-up wipe before it even budges. While it is a matte lipstick and therefore is drying, it’s definitely not debilitating, and if you can pull this colour off (I don’t know if I can tbh) then it’s perfect for a summer evening.

Books

Rainbow Rowell – Fangirl

13625397_1167013266654421_8136015366712652218_n.jpg

Okay so I know I’m a million years late with this one and every teenage girl under the sun has read Fangirl but I decided to take it to Athens with me and it was so perfect! I’ve read Rainbow’s Eleanor and Park previously and thought it was good, but not amazing. But I was so pleasantly surprised by Fangirl that I actually started re-reading it after I finished it on the plane home. I fell in love with literally all the characters and, as a previous serial fangirl myself, I can definitely relate! Love love love.

Nicola Yoon – Everything Everything

14079786_1167013303321084_1068779242118114451_n.jpg

I actually read Everything Everything a lot earlier this year, but I could not resist including it in this post. It is probably one of my favourites this year, and the phrase is overused but I was hooked from start to finish. I’m a lover of a quick easy read, and this was that, and more. Towards the end, I was literally gripped to the pages, and the twists and the sense of danger and caution you feel for protagonist Maddy is one of a kind. Everyone should read this book. I’m not kidding.

Movies

Suicide Squad

Suicide-Squad-poster.jpg

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. How could this be a favourite? How could you consider this a favourite, Jess? What’s wrong with you? Well, readers. I will bloody well tell you.It may have something to do with the fact that this is the only new film I’ve actually watched this summer. That is part of it. But, at the risk of vocalising an unpopular opinion, I actually quite liked this movie. I liked the feel of it, as weird and emo as it was. I loved the characters (apart from Leto’s Joker.. we won’t even go there with how appalling it was) and I loved the visuals. I just enjoyed it. Shoot me.

Clothing

Bomber Jacket – New Look

5.jpg6.jpg

Unfortunately, the last few items won’t have links to purchase due to them no longer being sold, being sale items from the beginning of summer. Sorry! But this first one I am literally obsessed with. I found the last one left in my local New Look on a random trip, in my exact size and it was clearly fate. I was meant to be with this jacket. It’s legit. It’s so silky and light-weight and perfect for summer, for something to chuck on and it’s definitely in style and has been for a while.

Light wash jeans – New Look

1.jpg3.jpg

These were another sale item, spontaneously found in my size, last of their kind. Sorry for being that annoying person. But, I’ve loved these jeans for the summer. The colour and style is very me at the moment and they actually look slightly ankle-swingery on me!! As someone who is very, very short, it’s a struggle to find jeans that don’t ruffle up at the ankle like some kind of weird elephant leg. But these don’t! And I love them for that. Also, they make my butt look good. (Always a bonus).

Accessories

Purse – Primark

This summer I’ve been slightly obsessed with the colour blue. If it’s in a shop and it’s blue, I’ve probably considered buying it. Don’t ask me why, I’ll be the last to know. Maybe it has something to do with my first car being navy. Anyway. I saw this purse floating around the fitting rooms when I was at work one day and made it my mission to find it on my lunch break. It’s exactly the style of purse I love, skinny and a single zip. And it’s pretty. This will definitely outlast the summer and at £4 (full price), I really can’t complain.

And there it is! My first ever favourites post! It was fairly long so I’m sorry and well done if you’ve stayed for the whole thing. Please like and give me a comment if you enjoyed the post and if there’s stuff I can improve on for the next one!

I hope you all have had a fantastic summer and are looking forward to the next part of your lives, whether that’s school, university or just another great autumn. Til next time.
