Spring + Summer Favourites 2017

Hello hello hello…. I’m back (again) after a little escape (again) from the blogging world (again). Let’s just say things have been… busy. V V busy, in fact.

But now, hopefully things are going to calm down a bit, and I can get back into the thing I always want to spend my time on: blogging!

To kick start summer with some cool content (and by Cool Content I mean the same thing every other blogger does ever), without any further ado, here are the things I loved throughout Spring and the start of Summer 2017, and will continue to love for the foreseeable future!

Pink Suede Floral Handbag – River Island

img_1261

Ever since a disastrous bag-breaking on Christmas Eve last year left me handbag-less and struggling to carry all my crap around, Mum thought the best birthday present for me would be A New Bag. And boy, did she do good. As popular as the floral embroidery trend is right now, I literally cannot get enough of it. Which you will see more and more as this post goes on… (If you’re not a fan of this trend, I suggest turning back now).

Before this, I’d never felt quite girly enough (or wealthy enough) to own a River Island bag, but now this embroidered beauty is in my life I’m not sure I could ever let her go. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a link to this exact bag, so clicking the link above will take you a similar bag on the River Island website.

I love this bag because not only is it big enough to carry everything I need on the daily, it’s even big enough to squeeze in some overnight stuff or use for a bit of shopping if needed. The fact that it has a long shoulder-strap as well as the hand straps suits me perfectly, as does the fact that it’s just one giant hole of a bag, rather than having loads of shitty pockets. 10/10 would bag again (oo-er).

Floral Jenna Jeans – New Look

img_1258

I told you the floral theme would continue. Sorry not sorry.

After my birthday I happened to have a bit of spare cash to spend, and took a trip to town with my mum, where I promptly fell in love with these jeans, tried them on, only to find that they fit like a dream, even on my skinny-as bum and legs! Result!

New Look have seemingly taken it on themselves (as well as everywhere else) to copy TopShop’s femininely-named denim range, but I can’t say I’m complaining. It it helps us ladies find the fit that works for us, more power to it. I love the fit of these for summer, with the rips and ankle-grazing-ness (it’s a word, okay?), plus I haven’t seen a pair of floral embroidered jeans before or since that I like as much as these.

That, and they get complimented all the time, which is also nice.

Pink ‘Feminism’ T-Shirt – H&M

Aaaanndd the final installment in the ‘What Pink/Floral Item is Jess Going to Buy Next?’ series is here.

At the same time when I found the New Look Jenna jeans, I was in my local H&M looking for something to get to use up an old voucher, and was not finding a lot (anyone else going off H&M a bit?), I came across this t-shirt amongst the array of edgy, Tumblr-esque shirts and sweatshirts and had to have it. It’s pink. It has a rose on it. It matches my jeans. It has ‘Feminism’ on it. What more could you want?

Unfortunately I couldn’t find a link to this shirt! Apologies!

Music

After Laughter – Paramore

How could I NOT have this in my Spring favourites? Really??

If anyone who knows me is reading this, then this can’t be a surprise, can it? Not at all.

If you didn’t know, Paramore are my favourite band in the whole damn world and THEY CAME BACK. Like, they actually came back into our lives. With new music and everything. And this album actually is everything. From the universally-loved and catchy-as-fuck Hard Times, to the beauty that is Fake Happy and the melancholy Tell Me How, this album is chock-full with the joys of Spring time and carefree sunny car rides with the windows down.

Whether you were into Paramore back in the day or not, please just listen to this album. You won’t regret it.

Intertwined EP – Dodie

My love for Dodie (or doddleoddle on YouTube) began this past Spring after re-finding her channel and then listening to… everything she’s ever made. I love Dodie. I love this EP. I love music.

These songs are perfect for those bright days, where the sun is shining and you’re feeling nostalgic, and I honestly can’t wait to see what this girl does next.

Books

Get Your Shit Together – Sarah Knight

img_1075

You may have already heard of my love for this book over in my post about my Top Hot or Not Books of 2017 So Far, but the love for this one is big.

I’ve heard of Sarah Knight’s other insanely popular anti-self help novel The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a Fuck from bloggers and vloggers all over the place, but thought to myself that I already give fairly little fucks, and should really turn my focus onto Getting My Shit Together, which is exactly what this book taught me to do, even if that was by channeling my inner Simon (you’ll have to read it to find out what the hell I’m actually on about).

For the full low-down on this incredible self-help journey in hard-back form, click on the link to my previous post above. If not, you’ll have to take my word for it.

Miscellaneous

The 100

the-100-new-header.jpg

I don’t watch a lot of TV. I don’t watch a lot of films. I find it very difficult to sit down and concentrate on watching something for an extended period of time (unless that thing is Modern Family, obviously). But I love The 100.

Myself and Connor started watching this show about last year after finding it on Amazon Prime, and I instantly got into the whole idea of it. Dystopian, futuristic teen drama with seriously attractive actors? Count fifteen year old me me right in. And for the past few weeks I’ve been watching Season Four. No spoilers, but… just go watch it. It’s SO GOOD AND DRAMATIC.

Bullet Journal

img_1076

Yes, yes, I know. How many times is she going to go on about these bloody things and then give up on them only 2 weeks later? Well my friend, you guessed it – I started bullet journalling again!!

While I tried this particular organisation method last year and it didn’t quite work out, I’ve managed to motivate myself into continuing with the habit for over two months now and am slowly getting into the swing of things, as well as finding what works for me!

I’m thinking of doing a whole post about my bullet journal, my spreads (oo-er) and how I’m organising my life using it, so if you’d be interested in reading this please send me a comment or like this post, and if you have any posts about Bullet Journalling yourself, feel free to link them down below! The link above is the particular notebook I purchased to start my bullet journal this time around!

My iPhone

For years, I resisted. For so long, I was adamantly against the extortionate prices, the superiority, the exclusivity. But this Spring… I went through the change.

I got an iPhone. I’m now the loving owner of a gold iPhone 6S and I… love it. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever go back. Sorry Android. You were (not) good to me, but it’s time to go our separate ways.

And there you have it, all my Spring Favourites rolled into one handy post for ya! Thanks for being so patient with me while I was away for a while, I hope to get back into the swing of blogging more than ever before now, and I’ll be posting very soon about the reason for this and some personal stuff that might clear things up!

What were your favourites from the Spring, and what are you most looking forward to about Summer? Let me know in a comment, and link me to your own favourites posts if you have them! Thanks for reading!

Til next time,

Jess x

  1. I love the embroidery on that bag!

I know what you mean about the iPhone. I resisted for years too, just sticking to a trustworthy Samsung. But now I couldn’t imagine not having an iPhone as I LOVE the design of it, the camera quality, basically everything 😂
